Garage Sale – Shoppers Guide

Going through garages sale, can be a great way to save money on office, personal or even household things, especially if you’re on a budget. You never know what you will find in someone else’s old boxes, it can be fun.

Here are some tips on garage sale to make sure you go home with good deals.

THE PLACE THEY’RE HELD:
Most likely, there is one garage sale a day being open across the nation. You will need to pay attention. Most people do not advertise much, and they do their free advertising, on post and walls.

You might want to look at bulletin boards in hospitals, schools, country clubs and even city hall, to see if they are posting for garage sales. People can post their news for free, with authorization.

Some people use local websites to post garage sales, so you might want to check there.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR GARAGE SALE SHOPPING

Don’t shop alone, bring a friend. The more, the merrier.

Never bring more money than you can afford. The less money, the less temptation there is. You want to save not spend… Also be nice and have small bills. The sellers will bless you for this.

Be warned, there is a possibility that a few folks show up the same time as you, so do not wear a sweatshirt. Also bring dark clothes. Garage sale often rhymes with dust.

If you read about the sale on internet, get the right address. You don’t want to knock at a wrong house and look like a fool.

THE BEST OF SALES
Beware of the odd looking garage sales. If you see shirts with dishes, just keep on driving by. Remember if it does happen it does not mean that every garage sale will be like that, there will be more. The best thing is when there is a little competition in the neighborhood. Check out all garage sales if you have the time.

BUY LOW, SELL HIGH
You know how it goes, don’t pay too much, bargain the price down so you can find a price that is in between the asking price… It can be a little trickier if you have new items on display. If the item is in very good shape, and want to pay the asking price go ahead, but ask yourself if its really worth that much.

ASK FOR A BETTER PRICE!
In proper English, it is called haggling. It’s the art of negotiating a lower price that is was originally intended for an article. If you do want to try haggling, have confidence or else you are dead meat and won’t get a lower price. Make the seller understand that you will pay for the junk he doesn’t want anymore. Stay respectful, try to lower the cost by 50% and who knows, the seller might be in a good mood to give it to you.

GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES
When you go yard sale, everyone will sell a sofa or maybe an old washing machine and they might sell it for 50$. But that kind of deal burns a hole in your pockets really fast so to have more fun, go for those weird looking object that you might have use for and don’t see everyday.

Have fun and if you don’t go somewhere else…
